In the Room

Real conversations.

Real rooms.

Real connections.

Real conversations. Real rooms. Real connections.

Over 25 years in business has taught me that some of the most valuable conversations happen away from boardrooms, presentations and perfectly prepared agendas.

Through The Complicated Coach, Complicated Co. and Complicated Conversations, I've had opportunities to meet founders, entrepreneurs and people challenging how we think about business, leadership and life.

Some have been speaking opportunities. Others have been invitations, features or conversations that have stayed with me long after the event.

This is a collection of those moments, the people I've met and the conversations worth sharing.

Jodie Horgan, Emma Grede and Rachael Kennedy at Emmas Book Launch

In Conversation | April 2026

In April 2026, Jodie attended an intimate session with Emma Grede — entrepreneur, co-founder of Good American, SKIMS board member and one of the most prominent voices in women in business globally.

Jodie was the only person in the room to ask a question. She quoted Emma's own words back to her:

“You said you don’t enjoy the performative notion of women supporting women. You want the real stuff.”

“We’ve been in business for a year. What one piece of real advice would you give us?”

Emma loved it. Jodie loved her. 🖤

The moment clearly resonated beyond the room, too. The Reel went on to reach nearly 100,000 views.

Blended — Kate Ferdinand

Founding Member | Private Event, March 2026

Jodie is a founding member of Blended, Kate Ferdinand's community bringing together people navigating blended families, step-parenting and modern family life.

In March 2026, Jodie attended a private event hosted by Kate, bringing together members for honest conversations about the realities of blended family life.

As a stepmother herself, Jodie understands that families don't always fit neatly into traditional definitions, and that the most useful conversations are often the ones people are reluctant to have.

Being part of Blended reflects something that runs through everything Jodie does, from business and leadership to her own experiences of family life.
